A screening is a short FREE consultation where Therapies4kids provides an informal evaluation to the prospective client. The initial screening and interview usually last approximately 30-40 minutes. The primary focus of this interview is to meet face to face, answer any questions that you may have and gather any additional information, if necessary.  It is designed to identify potential problems that interfere with the child's communication, social and academic success. Therapies4kids is able to screen the areas of hearing, vision, speech/ language and pre-literacy skills.

Audiometric Screening: Tests hearing for pure tones from 250 Hz through 8000 Hz bilaterally for children 3 years of age and older. Failure on any frequency will result in a referral to the otolaryngologist

Vision Screening: Performed using the pediatric hand chart to evaluate visual acuity for children 3 years of age and older.

Speech, Language and Pre-Literacy Screenings: Our speech, language, pre-literacy screening tests are all criterion reference of the complete (longer) standardized tests and offer to children 2 years of age and older. The screenings will result in a pass or fail score based on normal development and established criterion for each of the three areas tested. The results will give us information to make specific recommendations for the client. The pre-literacy screening test is designed to identify “red flags” of children at risk of developing reading problems once they enter Kindergarten.

Our recommendations may be that the patient’s development is

·        within normal limits for their age,

·        the patient needs a complete evaluation to determine what his needs are in the area of speech and language or,

·         either the hearing and/or vision screenings were not passed and the patient will need further evaluation from their doctor.

FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE, Therapies4kids provides FREE screenings at:

Daycares and schools: Please call our offices to see if your daycare or school is scheduled or to schedule your daycare or school for our screening.

At our clinic: Screenings are given in 30 minute increments. In those 30 minutes, we will use our knowledge and experience to figure out the best “next step” for your child.

Complete Speech and Language Evaluation
A thorough evaluation is a process that confirms the proper diagnosis and helps to decide the best route of intervention. Each is personalized and an in depth process of gathering the necessary information that includes an interview of the patient and/or the caregiver, formal and informal testing, sharing the results and interpretation of the evaluation that will include the diagnostic data, a treatment plan of care, and any further recommendations needed.

The following areas may be assessed and the evaluation session is designed according to the patient's needs:

·         Articulation/phonology skills

·         Receptive/expressive language skills

·         Voice production

·         Fluency skills

·         Oral-motor functioning

·         Feeding and swallowing

·         Pragmatic language/Social language skills

·         Social interaction and play skills

·         Auditory and language processing skills

·         Pre-literacy and phonological awareness skills

·         Encoding and decoding reading skills

·         Memory, attention, concentration, critical thinking and

              problem solving

Speech-Language Treatment

Following the evaluation, we will develop an individualized treatment plan of care. Our goals and objectives will be based on the evaluation results. Treatment methods that we may utilize as part of our treatment, if applicable include ABA techniques, PROMPT oral motor techniques and cognitive/music therapy.

We usually provide treatment sessions in 30-60minute increments that can be scheduled at our clinic or at various daycares and schools. At Therapies4kids we believe our children’s parents are an important part of our team and actively encourage parent participation in order to get proper training as well as home carry-over strategies and techniques under the guidance of our speech language pathologist.
