Program History:

The Latin American Youth Center (LAYC) Foster Care Program is a licensed foster care provider in the District of Columbia. In order to
provide children in foster care with safe, loving, and stable homes, the program recruits and trains both English and Spanish-speaking individuals/ families and licenses them as foster families or kinship caretakers. Once a child is placed in the home of a licensed family, the LAYC Foster Care Program provides supportive foster care services to the child, the foster family and the child’s biological family.

Prospective foster parents/ kinship caregivers can be married or single; male or female, with or without children,
English or Spanish speakers; renters or homeowners; etc. Both traditional and non-traditional families are welcome to apply.

The LAYC Foster Care Program offers FREE Monthly Foster Care Information Sessions every second Wednesday of the month. Whether you’re interested in becoming a foster parent, know someone who is or are just plain curious about foster care, this information session is right for you!

When: Every second Wednesday of the month*
Where: Columbia Heights DC (the exact location will be given to those who pre-register)

- Light refreshments
- Child care available (if requested in advance)
- Presentations in English and Spanish

While no commitment to fostering is required, we do ask that folks pre-register so that we can properly prepare for the event (i.e. arrange for light refreshments and child care).

To reserve your spot in any of our upcoming information sessions or for more information, please contact Vanessa León at 202-413-7457 or

*In the case that you are interested in learning more about fostering but are unable to make one of the scheduled foster care information sessions, please let us know so that we can schedule another time to speak with you over the phone or in person.
