The School of Art and Design at SIU is one of the leaders in education in the fields of art and design. We provide instruction for young practitioners to excel in the 21st century. In addition to Southern Illinois University, which presents regular art exhibitions, as well as concerts and theatrical productions, Carbondale offers a variety of unique cultural events in a comfortable small-town setting.

Activities:
SIU has 31 fraternities and sororities. The Fraternity & Sorority Life office assists in advising these organizations & advises their governing councils & honor societies. Degree Programs: The School of Art and Design offers two undergraduate degrees, the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and the Bachelor of Arts (BA).
The MFA, the terminal degree in art, includes 2D (Drawing, Painting, Printmaking), Ceramics, Glass, Metals, Sculpture.
The MA degree in Art History and Visual culture is offered, as well as an Art History certificate program that MFA candidates may pursue concurrently with their studio coursework.
The BFA, a professional degree, includes ten concentrations: Art Education, Ceramics, Communication Design, Drawing, Glass, Industrial Design, Metalsmithing, Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture.
Under the BA degree there is one major: art. The Art concentrations include Art Education, Art History, General Studio.
The MFA, the terminal degree in art, includes 2D (Drawing, Painting, Printmaking), Ceramics, Glass, Metals, Sculpture.
The MA degree in Art History and Visual culture is offered, as well as an Art History certificate program that MFA candidates may pursue concurrently with their studio coursework.
Computer Capabilities:
The School of Art and Design Computer Lab is centrally located in the Pulliam Design Wing. The lab has a director who maintains it and technically assists faculty who teach digital related media. The lab houses 25 Mac computers complete with CS6 software. It has scanners, color laser printers and large scale inkjet printers.
Admissions Requirements: UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSIONS:
1) A completed application for admission and scholarships.
2) A $40 non-refundable application fee. Fees may be waived for students who meet certain income levels.
3) An official copy of ACT or SAT scores. These must be sent directly from the testing organization. Our school codes are 1144 for ACT and 1726 for SAT.
4) Current, official transcripts from each high school and college you’ve attended. All transcripts must be issued within the last 30 days and be contained in official sealed envelopes. A final high school transcript will be required upon graduation and completion of all high school course work.
