Treatment Services: Partial Hospital & Intensive Outpatient Programs both involving returning to home each day after treatment. The services provided include: Individual, family, couples, psychoeducational, and group therapy, Nutritional Counseling, Medication Management, supportive lunch and dinner meals.
Treatment Model: The program utilizes an eclectic approach incorporating Individual, Group, and Family Therapies utilizing cognitive behavioral, dialectical, psychodynamic, and psychoeducational models. A structured schedule of therapies is designed to assist individuals to manage their emotional, social and behavioral symptoms. Medical education, psychiatric evaluation and psychopharmacology are provided by our psychiatrist. We also provide Nutritional assessment and counseling, supportive lunch & dinner meals, snacks/supplements as needed, weight monitoring, health screening and coordination of care with a medical doctor. In addition, are groups such as stress management and relaxation, body image and a multifamily group for family and friends.
Founded: The Eating Disorder Program opened in 1999. It is the only adult and adolescent partial hospital for eating disorders in Suffolk County.

Duration: The average length of outpatient treatment for most clients is 4 to 8 weeks.

Setting:
The Adult and Adolescent Programs provide 2 levels of care in our outpatient setting:
Partial Hospital (PHP): Monday through Friday 1:00pm - 7pm. Adolescent clients who require Tutoring during the school year, attend from Noon to 7pm, with education beginning daily at 1:00pm. The educational component is provided by St. James Tutoring.
Intensive Outpatient (IOP): Monday through Friday 4:00pm-7:00pm.
Pricing: Mather Hospital participates with most managed care companies. Single Case agreements can be negotiated for individuals with out of network benefits. We also accept Medicare & Medicaid.
Aid: Information provided upon request regarding charitable care guidelines.
Professional Affiliations: The Eating Disorder Program is a member of the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA).
Area of Focus:
A comprehensive program designed to treat the physical, psychological, and nutritional aspects of eating disorders. The Partial hospital & Intensive outpatient programs provides treatment for patients affected by disorders such as Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorders, and other specified feeding or eating disorders. We also work with athletes and compulsive exercisers. Treatment is also provided for co-existing psychiatric disorders as needed.
Treatment Philosophy: Eating Disorders are serious health problems which affect all aspects of a person's life. Eating Disorder behavior such as starvation, binge eating, purging and compulsive exercising, are examples of self destructive coping skills which often develop as a means to cope with emotional pain and suffering. Recovery can occur with specialized professional treatment in addition to strong, consistent support.

Staff from Mather’s Eating Disorder Program is available upon request to provide education to schools & the community.

History:
The multidisciplinary team at Mather has been collaborating together for 15 years. Their previous experience in medical and mental health fields enable them to offer treatment for co-existing conditions such as depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorders, bipolar disorder and substance abuse.

Facility Description:
We are an outpatient program located near local bus lines and the LIRR. The staff patient ration is 4:10. On Mather Hospital's Voyage to Excellence, our goal is to provide a very nurturing and healing environment for our patients and their families while delivering excellent patient care. We are a Magnet Designated Hospital.

We are located within walking distance of the Port Jefferson Railroad. We are also located within a reasonable walking distance from the bus stop.
