GRTWA inspires intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and personal integrity to enable our students to emerge as lifelong learners, compassionate individuals, and successful members of society who are rooted in their heritage. As a community day school, GRTWA welcomes families from a wide range of Jewish backgrounds, reflecting the diversity of the American Jewish community today.
Steps to be Green:
We are extremely proud that our new building was designed similar to that of a LEED Silver building if it were it to undergo a certification process. Some key aspects are: Rain gardens: re-introducing native plant species in specific areas. It will help with both the quality and the quantity of the storm water collected on site and likely surpass local regulations. We were also able to reuse the existing storm water collection basin, which has become nestled into the landscape over the last thirty years - this is much better then clearing land for a brand new basin. The cyclical nature of the compost, garden and greenhouse all being located near the kitchen-will have solar for year-round use. The solar panels will provide 85% of electric use and we have made choices throughout the building to utilize electricity instead of fossil fuels wherever possible. An example of that would be the perimeter heat in the dining area which is electric instead of hot water - this means that if the solar panels are functioning, it is not burning any "fuel" to heat the dining room. Interactive Solar Monitoring System with weather station-The interactive touch screen Solar Monitoring System will allow students to monitor energy produced by the 500 solar panels, located on the roof of the school, as well as see how weather and time of day effect the production of solar power. Electric car ports: 4 ports to be used by current parents and guests who visit the school and have electric cars. Will likely be solar charged. . This is just a sampling of our Green Initiative. Please see our website for more information.
School History:
The renaming of our school from the Hebrew Academy of Morris County (HAMC) to Gottesman RTW Academy recognizes the long-term commitment, generosity, and vision of benefactors and alumni parents, Paula and Jerry Gottesman, generously gave a $15 million challenge gift from the Paula and Jerry Gottesman Family Supporting Foundation of the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater MetroWest NJ (JCF). Our name also honors our three founding families: Michael and Midge Rubenstein (R) , Alvin and Charlotte Turner (T), and Morty and Beatsy Wertheimer (W). The foresight, wisdom, energy, and deep commitment of these three wonderful families turned the dream of a Jewish day school for Morris County into a reality almost 50 years ago.
