Tuition: The University of Georgia Bursar‘s webpage has the most up to date information about tuition and fees for the current and past school years. Be sure to note that the MHP program falls under Specific Graduate Rates and not the Standard Graduate Rate. In addition to tuition, there are mandatory fees that give students access to the Athens and UGA bus system, the Ramsey Student Center for recreational sports, and more.
Financial Aid:

The University of Georgia and the College of Environment and Design offer various scholarships, fellowships, tuition waivers, and assistantships to help MHP students defray the cost of graduate school. In the second year of the MHP program, students are eligible for scholarships and fellowships from the College of Environment and Design itself. These programs support various combinations of tuition, travel, and individual research. The program coordinator can assign MHP students graduate assistantships based on funding from the CED, the University of Georgia Graduate School, and outside granting agencies. Finally, some students from outside Georgia are eligible for out-of-state tuition waivers, which can be acquired based on state of residence, academic merit, or a change of residency.

Activities:

The the MHP curriculum is enriched with field studies, service learning projects and other community engagement activities. In addition to having a MHP program that is highly recognized nationally, UGA and the City of Athens have so much to offer in the way of student life. The Student Historic Preservation Organization (SHPO) is active in volunteering in the community, enjoying local trivia nights, and organizing guest lecture series for students. Students also enjoy Georgia Football and tailgates in the Founders House and Memorial Garden before the games. Whether it's taking a break between classes to visit a downtown coffee shop or get a bite to eat at nationally acclaimed restaurants, attending Graduate Student Happy Hours at local breweries, or making use of common spaces right here in Denmark Hall, students in the MHP program form a tight knit bond that extends beyond the classroom.

Sports: The University of Georgia is nationally ranked in a wide range of inter-collegiate sports and offer many intramural sports and recreational activities for students with state of the art sports facilities. Student fees cover access to sport facilities for recreation and training.
Computer Capabilities:

Basic proficiency in the use of computers is required. A personal laptop computer is highly recommended. Instruction in necessary computer programs is provided.

Summer Sessions:

Students are encouraged to use the summers for hands-on experiences in a wide variety of internship opportunities. In addition, the program offers a Coastal Georgia Field Study, a three week intensive course that serves as an introduction to the field of Historic Preservation along with skills in site documentation, hands-on conservation techniques, and conservation strategies for cultural resources on Georgia's coast. Techniques of measuring will consist of traditional hand measuring and Global Positioning System (GPS) mapping. Conservation skills include carpentry, masonry, epoxy, and painting. Site visits to Sapelo Island, Cumberland Island, Fort Frederica, and other sites will examine differing approaches to conservation and interpretation. The primary location for field work is on Jekyll Island, Georgia.

Notes/School Information:

In addition to the numerous resources being available to MHP students at UGA, in 2017, Kiplinger placed UGA in its list for the Top 10 Best Values for public colleges. The Historic Preservation program prepares students for broad-based careers in the conservation and management of historic resources in both the built and natural environments. The two-year Master of Historic Preservation degree is structured to develop versatile, competent, and highly motivated professionals who can perceive preservation opportunities in the broadest sense and who can develop strategies ensuring the protection and use of cultural resources as a part of the fabric of urban and rural environments. An accelerated MHP degree, a joint Juris Doctor and MHP, and a Historic Preservation certificate are also available.
