The Queen gets diagnosed....

Victoria's doctor wanted us to take her to Jefferson County Child Find, a program designed to evaluate Victoria's behavior cognitive ability, fine motor skills. They told us she had Sensory Intergration. I went to a confrence held by  Author Carol Kranowitz she wrote the book "The out-of-sync-child" I left that confrence thinking Victoria had many of the attributes asscoiated with Sensory Intergration. Our next appointment would be with The Children's Hospital Child development Unit. The process was very long they played with Victoria asked us a million questions. The team that evaluated her was caring loving and gentle. They enjoyed her and told us what a beautiful little girl she was. The Dr. that gave us the diagnosis however was cold and her bed-side mannner was just plain wrong. She asked me "what was the worst thing she could tell me about Victoria" and my  reply was "that she was mentally retarder" A term or word that is not used or even spoke in my home or by any of our freinds or family. Well sorry to say the doctor was so insensitive she blurted out "well she is" I almost fell off the chair, my husband lost all color in his face I was hysterical and asked her did that mean Victoria would never talk? she replied She didnt know what Victoria would ever be able to do. She then stated before I could leave I would have to calm down. I said you tell me the worse thing that a parent could ever hear and dont want me to react? I almost lost it I couldnt believe I was really hearing this woman or the diagnosis. I cried all the way home Steve didnt trust his voice to speak  so the drive home will be forever burned in my mind, as one of the very worst things I had to come to terms with.My mourning for my baby started that day.
