The Aegean Center for the Fine Arts

Founded in 1966, the Aegean Center for the Fine Arts offers small group and individualized study in painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, writing and singing. Our facilities are located in two of the world's most compelling locations-- the Aegean islands of Greece and Italy's Tuscany.

We offer several financial aid packages for which all prospective students may apply.

The Autumn Session begins in the Tuscan city of Pistoia, Italy, 30 km west of Florence and concludes at our permanent facility on the Greek island of Paros. During our days in Pistoia we make many excursions to museums, sites and other important cities and towns including Venice, Pisa, Florence, Lucca, Siena and Rome. Our time in Italy concludes with a three-day stay in Rome before departing for a three-day stay in Athens on our way back to Paros. The schedule allows participants to study and base work on the two most important inter-related Mediterranean traditions of art in a single program. Once on Paros courses continue in earnest and students begin work in their studios and labs.

The Spring Session is held at our permanent facility on the Greek island of Paros. Paros is situated in the Cycladic group of islands, 100 miles southeast of Athens. Partly because of its famous marble, Paros has been an important part of civilization since 5,000 BC. In the village of Parikia, where the school is located, houses and churches gleam brilliant white and the waterfront is lined with cafes and restaurants that look out across the bay toward the sunset. The Center's restored Neo-classical facility is located in the heart of Parikia on the old market street leading to the famed Byzantine Church of a Hundred Doors. Our student apartments are a three minute walk from the Center off the very same market street.

Small by design, each session is organized around a format of intensive small group and one-to-one instruction with our full-time staff members, as well as our visiting lecturers and artists. Students commit to a primary course of study as well as choose from a weekly schedule of classes. Each session ends with student readings, solo singing performances and an exhibition of student painting and photography.
