Focus: Assemblies, Residencies and Workshops to Complement Learning Goals
Grade Levels:
K-5, 6-8, 9-12
Length: 45 -60 minute assemblies, week to month long residencies and workshops from 1 to 4 hours in length
Travel:
Travel costs for areas beyond Tucson, AZ
Pricing: $250 for one assembly. Block booking rates extended for additional assemblies the same day. Standard residency fees by week or month. Some rates subject to negotiation.
Workshops:
How Storytelling Reinforces Common Core Standards in English Language Arts; Using Storytelling to Energize Student Achievement; How to Effectively Use Puppets in the Classroom; Helping Students Find, Document and Tell Family Stories
Residencies: for students K through 8 in schools where specific learning goals have been identified and resulting achievement can be showcased by participating students. I prefer to work daily with a core group or grade level, and also have some impact on all other grade levels during my time at a school. My resdency work can be spread out for months on a local level, or provided during one to four week blocks of time when I travel away from home base. If desired, one day residencies can also be provided.
Setup: A sound system is helpful for groups larger than 100.
Takedown: NA
Equiptment: Except for a sound system, I bring my own equipment with me.
Special Requirements: I request a bottle of room temperature water, a small table and one chair for assembly work.
Highlights:
My programs include Multicultural Stories, Folk and Fairy Tales and How and Why Stories. Other programs focus on puppetry, mask making, and interdisciplinary arts (including magic, tangrams, drawing stories, etc.)

I am dedicated to encouraging literacy, cultural awareness and intergenerational communication througjh the power of story. I believe learning can be fun, and it is through this fun that a child ca be motivated to learn more.
Philosophy/Belief Statement:
I am an energetic and creative performer combining story, magic and puppetry in tailor-made performances, assemblies and residencies. I enjoy working in rural and urban settings, and I often tour the country with my programs. I am listed as a roster artist with the Arizona Commission on the Arts, the Nevada Arts Council and others. My performances have also been featured at conferences, festivals, college classes, camps and community celebrations.

I have been making my living as a storyteller and puppeteer since 1996. ARTIST BIOGRAPHY – Glenda Bonin

Glenda Bonin is the owner of Story Works Group and has been performing for more than thirty years, making her living as a storyteller since 1996. She has appeared before audiences in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
She is a Roster Artist with the Alaska Council on the Arts, the Arizona Commission on the Arts, the Nevada Council on the Arts, the North Dakota Council on the Arts and the Tucson-Pima Arts Council. She is a member of the National Storytellers Network, and the Puppeteers of America.
In 2006, she took a five-month, 9,000 mile storytelling tour across the United States. A highlight of this tour was participating as a “Western Showcase” performer during the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival in Orem, Utah. Since that time, Glenda has toured the country two more times (2008 and 2010) with a different show each year.
She often participates in collaborative work with artists from other disciplines (puppetry, music, dance, video and visual art), and serves as lead artist for these group projects. Her most recent collaboration was in 2010 with a puppeteer to present “Squirrely Shirley Makes Waves,” a library program to help inform children and parents about water safety.
Her credits include elementary school residencies, college classes, family workshops and public concerts. She has worked with disabled children in summer camp programs; held teacher in-services and parent workshops; provided after-school and summer camp residencies in rural elementary schools; taught teens how to tell stories to tots and presented classes in churches, museums and university extension programs.
She participated as one of the regional storytellers at the 2007 Mesa Storytelling Festival in Arizona. The Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area “Haunting in the Hills Storytelling Festival” in Tennessee featured Glenda on stage in 2004 and 2009.
Glenda holds a BA in Management from the University of Phoenix (1990) and is a certified substitute teacher in Arizona. In 1998 and 1999, she earned graduate credits at East Tennessee State University through the Storytelling Institutes program. She was recognized with a Fellowship Award from the Tucson/Pima Arts Council in 2000.
Her management background includes four years as the administrative assistant to the manager of a television station, and thirteen years in communication and marketing for non-profit organizations. Glenda has contributed to her community through service on three different boards.
Most recently, she coordinated the storytelling stage for the Tucson Festival of Books in 2011 and 2010. She will be the coordinator for the storytelling stage again in 2012.
