Mission Statement:
Axiom Education & Training Center is a collaborative, innovative and technology-driven organization that advances the life-long educational and professional development of businesses and residents, while strengthening the economic, social, and cultural life of the diverse community.
Philosophy/Belief Statement:
Axiom believes that through education and technology, we will change the economic status of a region.
The Axiom Education & Training Center will serve all business, industry and community members by offering education, training and professional development. Axiom will provide programs and services for the general adult population which stress life-long learning in the areas of academic, cultural, social, recreational, and personal development.
Classes will provide opportunities for professional growth, personal enrichment, computer skills improvement, and preparation for professional careers in a supportive environment. Customized training and consulting solutions will be offered to local businesses and industries, as well as to community residents. Classes, workshops, seminars and one-on-one tutoring sessions will be held at the Axiom Education & Training Center classroom in Machias; at multiple locations throughout Washington County; the State of Maine; and at individual business locations.
The Axiom Education & Training Center realizes it cannot achieve this vision alone; partnerships with other entities and institutions, in the region and beyond, are critical factors in realizing success. Axiom believes that building a teaching and learning community in its broadest and best sense encompasses a concern for the whole. To maximize the impact on current efforts, Axiom will seek to collaborate with other 501(c) (3) organizations.
The Axiom Education & Training Center supports and encourages its instructors to experiment with non-traditional modes of teaching and learning through classroom research, the use of technology incorporated into the classroom, and through alternative delivery systems and scheduling. Axiom will provide resources, curriculum, media, and technology services and supporting instructors. Students will be exposed to enhanced teaching and learning processes. At times, per the discretion of the board of directors, the Axiom Education & Training Center may offer internships or volunteer opportunities which will provide opportunities in order to have a greater impact for change.
The Axiom Education & Training Center recognizes that many diverse barriers can hinder student access to educational opportunities. Axiom is committed to recruiting and providing services to populations traditionally underserved by higher education because of these barriers. In this endeavor, expanding innovation and technology throughout Washington County and other regions plays a key role. Axiom’s successful digital literacy model is due to several factors; the classes are held in multiple locations throughout Washington County, the time of class is at the convenience of the student and the classes are taught in a very supportive, relaxed environment.
The Axiom Education & Training Center is committed to taking a vigorous leadership role in identifying and addressing the issues which are pivotal in making the vision a reality. The Center recognizes that the present and the future are closely entwined with the health and vitality of the region.
