School District: The Walton County School District serves the educational needs of the communities of Santa Rosa Beach, Freeport, DeFuniak Springs, and Paxton, Florida. Located in the heart of the Panhandle and spanning from the Gulf of Mexico to the Alabama border, the district enjoys a diversified economic base. Currently, the district consists of three high schools, three middle schools, six elementary schools, and one K-12 school utilizing a K-4, 5-8, 9-12 grade level configuration.

Uniform Guidelines:

A student's wearing apparel and grooming shall be the responsibility of the individual student and his or her parents or guardian. Dress and grooming shall be clean, healthy, and safe and shall not be permitted to disrupt the teaching, learning environment. Items that when worn together are usually indicative of gang memberships or apparel that contains a message that is obscene, racist, or promotes illegal activities, drugs, alcohol, or tobacco products shall not be permitted on school grounds or at school functions. District-wide dress requirements for elementary students are as follows:

For both male and female students, the recommended wear will be jeans, long slacks, ordress2 capris (below the knee). Pants that drop below the waist are not permitted at any time. The wearing of shorts, skirts or dresses that approach the knee will also be allowed. Holes in garments above the knees will not be permitted. Students must wear shirts that cover the midriff. T-shirts or polo shirts are recommended. Spaghetti straps are not allowed. All visible garments must be in accordance with the dress code. Shoes will be worn at all times. The following shoes are not acceptable: Heelies (shoes with wheels), shoes with cleats, high heels (greater than 1 inch), platform shoes (greater than 1 inch), or bedroom shoes. Hats will not be allowed to be worn in the school building at anytime. Sunglasses, hats and other sun-protective wear will be allowed to be worn outside only.

Curriculum: The academic program is organized into a seven period day. Seven credits per year is the traditional course load. Several students choose to take advantage of virtual classes and dual enrollment opportunities while on and off campus.

During the 2015-16 school year, 222 students took a total of 374 AP exams.

Honors Classes are offered in English, Science, Social Studies, Math, Foreign Language, and Numerous Electives.

The Dual Enrollment partnership with Northwest Florida State College and the University of West Florida enables students to enroll in college courses and earn college credits at local institutions of higher education or at SWHS.
